Famous truck stops across America
Considering how much time truck drivers spend behind the wheel, it’s no wonder that they’ll stretch their legs at any old diner or giant ball of twine they can find. But for those looking for something a little extra, here are some stops to remember.
- Jubitz Truck Stop & Travel Center: This Portland, OR spot has been around for over 50 years and just keeps getting better. In addition to trucker amenities like 10 fueling lanes at the lowest prices, a scale service to save time at checkpoints, and showers and hot tubs, there’s also delicious sit-down dining at The Cascade Grill Restaurant. If you’re in a hurry, you can always zip through the deli, but our guess is you’ll want to stick around.
- Iowa 80: Located in Walcott, Iowa 80 boasts the title of “World’s Largest Truckstop”. Started in 1964 by Standard Oil, the stop took on a more family vibe when Bill Moon took over management. Besides hosting the Walcott Truckers Jamboree every year since 1979, Iowa 80 features a trucking museum, a 300-seat restaurant, 24 showers, a movie theater, and more.
- Little America Travel Center: This stop is located in Flagstaff, AZ right at the mouth of the Grand Canyon. What’s more American than that? Rest your feet in the Dining Room or Coffee Shop while your vehicle gets complete 12-point service. There’s also a hotel if you need to spend the night.
- Muralt’s Travel Plaza: Operating for over 30 years, Muralt’s 24-hour-caf offers a variety of specialties and entrees in a traditional country setting. Their Wye West Casino is a great way to relax before getting back on the road, and features new Spielo machines sure to whet your appetite. Also, if you’re going to be in one place for awhile, consider having Muralt’s cater your event.
